We found that groups work when we communicate, are respectful towards each other, organise ourselves, pull our own weight and think for ourselves. They don't work as well when you get off track and don't know what everyone else is doing.
Today, Miss Klara came and spoke to our class about group dynamics. She gave us a couple of activities to try out and then we reflected on our experiences. We found that groups work when we communicate, are respectful towards each other, organise ourselves, pull our own weight and think for ourselves. They don't work as well when you get off track and don't know what everyone else is doing. We used these thoughts to think about what we need to succeed in our groups. The list was long but here are some of the key ideas: communicate, be kind, give everyone a chance to talk, be responsible, be tolerant, listen, be honest, appreciate each other, cooperate, participate and finally (my favorite) "have fun."

Today, Grade 5 had a presentation by Richard Ragan who is the head of the World Food Programme here in Tanzania. He talked to us about action, what it looks like, what good and bad action might be, potential problems and above all else to make sure the intended beneficiaries PARTICIPATE.
When we came back to class, I asked everyone to think of one word that answers the question, What is action? Here are the responses: Involved, meaningful, difference, helpful, community, teamwork, ideas, change, sustainable, development, interacting, helping, thinking, communicating, useful, participating, achievable, creative. I thought this was an interesting idea for raising awareness. The artist is called Andres Amador and you can check out his website here. He creates the most amazing beach art using a rake and his imagination. For your Final Exhibition you need to carry out an action that is either:
It is only Monday morning and already we have been really busy getting ourselves organised. We started off by looking at the transdisciplinary themes and had a go at mapping out our PYP careers. We then set up google sites for each of our exhibition groups as a way of organising our information. This is what they look like: We have also begun looking at the key concepts and using them to help formulate questions to research. We will work on this in more detail in our first mentor meetings and we will also get our parents involved during student led conferences.
Well done today for the great work you have done on your mindmups. I can't wait to see them when they are finished. Tonight, you should add AT LEAST 5 things to your mup. Remember the key questions:
A great second week guys. Here is a first look at our exhibition groups. They are grouped according to interest areas and each group now has a mentor and designated mentor meeting times. We have used our interest areas to focus in on an issue related to the central idea.
This week we are focusing in on the ideas we are most interested in. As a class, we took our ideas and tried to group them. We then looked at the other ideas in our group and started to make connections with each other. Today Miss Karen and Miss Elif showed you the Creative Commons Website which is a great tool that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation. To search you will need to use http://search.creativecommons.org/. It's always good to see what other schools are doing for their final exhibition. Here is a link to the blog at Freddy's old school in Azerbaijan and here is a link to Miss Elif's old school in Japan.
This week, we have been considering what we know about the PYP Exhibition. We each produced a reflective piece of writing by answering the following questions:
We then put all of our responses together to create a wordle. Which words stand out? Which words do you think should be more, or less, prominent? By the end of this week, you need to have completed your essential agreements for your creative journal and your creative journal entry for this week.
Your entry for this week needs to include: how you are feeling about the exhibition, What your passions and interests are, which provocations inspired you and what your initial ideas are. As an extra (mini) assignment. Show the image below to a member of your family and in the comments section below record what they see, think, wonder. Mr Stanley is a teacher in the Secondary School who has a passion, and talent, for photography. His website PHoToPoA is a great way to explore Tanzanian life and celebrate the country we live in. If you are looking for inspiration for the Final Ex, or just enjoy looking at great photos this is the place to be. Looking at these photographs, what connections can you make to your passions and areas of interest? Think about these questions and post your answers below:
